Kanyathon, an event driven by love, hope, and compassion, began in 2011 as a student-led initiative with a mission to raise awareness about the importance of “saving the girl child.” In its early years, the event was a small-scale effort, organized by students and faculty members, with the primary goal of educating the community about gender equality and child welfare.
As the event gained traction, it was warmly embraced by the local community, leading to increased participation each year. Kanyathon quickly became more than just a charity run; it turned into a movement, with more people becoming aware of the cause and offering their support.
Recognizing the potential for a broader impact, Kanyathon organizers began collaborating with NGOs, community leaders, and other organizations. This strategic partnership allowed Kanyathon to expand its reach, providing direct aid and resources to marginalized communities and underprivileged girls.
What started as a modest event has since grown into a powerful force for social change, impacting the lives of countless girls and families. Today, Kanyathon continues to be a beacon of hope, empowering communities and fostering a spirit of generosity and awareness, leaving a lasting impact on society year after year.

By funding their higher education, Kanyathon helps create future leaders who can bring positive change within their communities. In academic years- 2024-2025, Kanyathon awarded over 20 lakh INR in scholarships to meritorious girls from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with access to quality education through the Kanyathon Scholarship.
Last year, Kanyathon collaborated with NGO- Mumbai Smiles to support the education of 7 daughters of commercial sex workers from Kamathipura, Mumbai. This initiative provided for their school fees, tuition, stationery, and other educational needs. Among these girls, the eldest daughter successfully passed her 12th grade and is now pursuing a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW), driven by her desire to become a professional social worker and help other girls like her. This year, Kanyathon has expanded its reach, continuing the partnership with Mumbai Smiles to support 9 daughters from Kamathipura. In collaboration with Sparsh NGO in Pune, Kanyathon has also extended its support to 6 more daughters from Pune’s red-light area.
Starting with 7 daughters, Kanyathon now proudly supports the education of 15 daughters, ensuring a brighter future through education and empowerment.

Kanyathon has established five KSKs in Bangalore, Kolar district, and Jambrung (Karjat), which serve as digital learning hubs within government schools. These centers are equipped with smart screens, computers, and libraries, providing over 300 students with classes in English communication and computer literacy. Student volunteers from IFIM College and Vijaybhoomi University, along with dedicated facilitators, conduct weekly sessions, enhancing the academic prospects of students in these communities. These Kendras are started in the government schools where traditional classrooms are there. These Kendras have been set up within government schools that traditionally operate with limited resources. Kanyathon has designated one or two classrooms in each of these schools as dedicated Shiksha Kendras, where students receive focused instruction in English and Computer skills.
Coming from a poor economic background, KSK played a major role in Devi’s (Name Changed) life, where she says :

We are identifying other meritorious girls in the villages of our KSKs to provide scholarships for college.
